Christopher Maddux doesn’t think he’s going to play baseball in college, so last week’s MAIS Class 6A state championship series was probably the last time he will wear a baseball uniform as a player.

The Jackson Prep senior second baseman made the most the last week of his baseball career.

Maddux had a .555 batting average (5 for 9) with 4 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, 1 double and 1 home run to help Prep to its seventh consecutive state title with two wins in three games over Presbyterian Christian School last week.

For his outstanding week, Maddux has been named the PriorityOne Bank/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.

Maddux had one hit and one RBI in a 3-2 victory in Game 1, two hits in a 6-2 loss in Game 2, and 2 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, 1 double, and 1 home run in a 9-4 win in the deciding Game 3. He hit a three-run home run to give Prep a 6-0 lead in the first inning in Game 3.

“I could not be prouder of the way Christopher ended his senior year,” Prep coach Brent Heavener said. “Hitting a home run and a big double in the biggest game was so awesome for a senior. He has been a big leader for us this year and what a way to go out from Prep.

“Chris won the most valuable defensive award at the banquet. He made big plays for us all year and was a component for our success.”

Maddux hit .343 with 28 runs scored, 26 RBIs, 4 doubles, 6 home runs, and 5 stolen bases and helped Prep to a 39-4 record – one short of tying the MAIS record for wins in a season – and its seventh straight state championship this season.

Maddux is expected to attend Ole Miss and major in accounting.

Maddux is the son of Chris and Ashley Maddux. Chris is a graduate of Goodpasture Christian School in the Nashville area, Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Law School. Ashley graduated from Prep and Ole Miss. Christopher has three younger siblings. John Ed is a rising senior at Prep and plays football and basketball. Mary Hollis is a rising sophomore at Prep and is a cheerleader and plays volleyball. Lucy is a rising fifth grader at Prep and enjoys playing soccer and basketball. Christopher’s grandfather, Larry Hollis, lives in Ridgeland and never misses one of Christopher’s games.
