There are a few junior colleges who are showing interest in Brandon sophomore third baseman Tre Adcox this season, but after his outstanding year, especially last week, that number will likely grow soon.
Adcox had a superb week, hitting .714 (5 of 7 at bats) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 runs batted in, and 5 runs scored to lead defending state champion Brandon to two wins over Ocean Springs in best of three series in the MHSAA Class 7A state quarterfinals and a win over St. Martin to clinch its second round series last week.
For his outstanding play, Adcox has been named the BSN Sports/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.
Adcox went 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored in a 11-1 win over St. Martin in Game 2 to sweep the second round series. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in a 10-0 victory over Ocean Springs in Game 1. Adcox had a RBI and a run scored in Game 2 to sweep the quarterfinal series.
He has a .400 batting average – second only to Southern Miss signee and senior outfielder Jay McQueen on the team – with 22 runs scored, 27 RBIs, 6 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs entering this week for Brandon, which had a 21-12 record going into this week’s semifinal series with Oak Grove.
“Tre had a huge week for us last week against Ocean Springs,” Brandon coach Daniel Best said. “He has matured a lot over this season as a player and become a big part of our offense with his increase in power numbers down the stretch. Tre has held down the hot corner for us most of the season and become a good defender. We are excited about what the future brings for him.”
Adcox is the son of Marty and Eileen Adcox. Marty played baseball at Forest High where he guided the Bearcats to the state quarterfinals in 1992 and 1993 and won the first All Scott County MVP award in 1993. Eileen finished Top 10 in her class at Forest High and graduated from East Central Community College in the nursing program. Adcox’s brother, Jayden, is the starting catcher at East Central CC this season and won its regional and advanced to play Pearl River CC in the Super Regionals. Adcox helped East Central CC to a school record number of wins and reached the national semifinals last season. Jayden has signed with the University of New Orleans.
Brandon defeated Oak Grove 6-2 Wednesday in Game 1 of the best of three series in the 7A semifinals at Brandon. Game 2 is Thursday night at Oak Grove.
