That experience has helped him develop his overall game and prepare for the challenges ahead. I expect Ashtin to build on last year’s success, continue improving on both ends of the floor, and take on an even bigger leadership role. I believe he has the ability to elevate his game and help lead our program toward our ultimate goal of returning to the Big House. He has put in the work and I’m excited to see what he can accomplish this season. Dampier – the son of former Mississippi State and NBA star Erick Dampier, now an MRA assistant coach – was named the Player of the Year on the Tatum and Wade/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson team last season.

Dampier won a gold medal for the second straight summer for Team USA Basketball.

De’Shawn is a super athletic guard that can play multiple positions. He’s a three level scorer that can heat up very quickly. What’s most underrated about De’Shawn is his defense. He can guard the other team’s best player and turnaround and beat them on offense. He became a better leader amongst the team between last year and now. His understanding of the game increased as well as he commitment to making the guys around him better. Our plans for the future involve De’Shawn aiming even higher, putting in more work and leaving a legacy at NWR. Our focus is getting him better and prepared to perform at a high rate. We expect him to lead this group and continue to make NWR proud.”

Considered one of the top rated multi-sport athletes in the country, Dillon is rated as the No. 16 football player in Mississippi and the No. 74 wide receiver in the country by 247 Sports. “Jeff has impacted since the moment he stepped onto a high school court as a freshman,” Madison Central coach Ben Gardner said. “We moved him up right before the playoffs and he automatically had multiple games where he found his way into the score sheet. He’s been a high level contributor on both sides of the ball ever since. As a sophomore, Jeff averaged double figures before leading us in scoring as a junior. He usually draws the most difficult defensive assignment each night. We miss him when he’s on the football field where he stars at the safety position. Jeff is poised for a huge senior season. He has offers from basketball basically every junior college in the state in both sports as well as basketball offers from MC, Alcorn and Samford. Whoever gets his signature will have themselves a guy who will them games. Jeff is special and I am blessed beyond measure to have been able to be a small part of his journey. “We are extremely high on Austin, and we are glad to have him back with us,” Lanier coach Bo Clark said. “His teammates love him and he has come back and transitioned well into what we do as a team. I think Austin’s upside is really high. I think he’s very close to being a complete player. His shooting has improved, he’s gotten stronger, and his ball handling and decision making have gotten better. Austin’s a good kid, who comes from a basketball family. Jordan received all-district honors at the point guard spot, which fueled his drive and passion in the offseason. We expect him to be much more mature on an off the court while working to improve his point guard skills this year. He’s a next level talent and our goal is to have him prepared.”

Samuel was on the varsity as an eighth-grader when Northwest Rankin won the MHSAA Class 7A state championship in 2023.

“Braxton is an elite talent,” Raymond coach Tony Tadlock said. “Since Day 1, he’s come in and worked hard on his craft in becoming a complete player. Braxton is a gym rat. He is one of the best competitors that I’ve had the opportunity to coach. The kid is a winner and holds his teammates accountable. Braxton is an alpha dog. He’s the best scorer in Mississippi.”
