Hartfield Academy is having a tremendous baseball season and one of the big reasons why is the play of junior first baseman-left handed pitcher Lincoln Sheffield.
Sheffield especially played well last week when he hit .444 (4 of 9) with one home run and five runs batted in and allowed only one hit with nine strikeouts in six innings in two victories over Central Hinds in the MAIS Class 4A playoffs.
For his outstanding performance last week, the Mississippi State signee has been named the Two Men and a Truck/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.
Sheffield has a 10-1 record with a 0.99 earned run average, 103 strikeouts and only 18 walks in 66 2/3 innings and is hitting .466 with 14 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 55 runs scored and 42 RBIs for Hartfield, which had a 34-2 record entering today’s second game of the 4A playoff best-of-three semifinal series against Simpson Academy.
“Lincoln is a great competitor who always gives us a chance to win,” Hartfield coach Chuck Box said. “He thrives for the big moment and has delivered time and time again. Lincoln has been really good for us on the mound, his fastball command has been great, and he has really improved his out pitch.”
