Those five were baseball stars at Jackson Prep and there have been many more talented players along the way at one of the top high school baseball programs in Mississippi.
Add another one to the list. Or at least his resume and potential appear he is headed to be included in that group.
`Meet Konnor Griffin, rated the No. 1 player in the country in the Class of 2025 by Perfect Game. Griffin is a freshman at Prep and is expected to contribute next spring for the Patriots, who are the four-time defending MAIS state champions after finishing 35-3 and winning its last 14 games last season. Prep is loaded with Division I talent and here’s come Griffin, who has already getting Division I offers and serious interest.
“Konnor is one of the best young talents that I’ve seen,” Jackson Prep coach Brent Heavener said. “He has gotten a lot of attention over the last year and a half, but he has put in lots of hard work and earns everything that he has gotten so far. We are excited about his future and he could one of the best players to come out of Prep and that says a lot when you think about some of the greats to come through here.”
A right-handed pitcher-outfielder-infielder, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Griffin is not only rated as the No. 1 player in the country in his class by Perfect Game, but he was also selected the 5-tool Player of the Year. He was selected to compete in the Perfect Game Select Festival for the past two years, this year at Fort Myers, Fla., earlier this month. Griffin was one of 20 players named to the USA Baseball under 15 team earlier this month.
He played travel ball for the past year with Knights Knation National Team out of Mandeville, La.
In addition to play baseball at Prep, Griffin is also on the ninth-grade football and basketball teams.
Griffin has baseball offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma State and Tulane.
