Senior quarterback Caleb Miller threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Clinton to a 30-7 victory Friday night at Brandon in the season opener for both Class 6A teams. Miller connected with junior wide receiver Carsson Deyoung for a 44-yard TD pass and ran for a 3-yard TD for a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Miller hit senior wide receiver Michael Hughes for a 12-yard TD to give Clinton a 20-0 lead. After Brandon fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Clinton senior fullback Montavious Warren scored on a 1-yard run for a 27-0 lead. Price Nixon kicked a 41-yard field goal to give Clinton a 30-7. Brandon senior running back Ozarrio Smith ran for an 80-yard TD and junior Blake Smith added the extra point to cut the lead to 30-7 in the second quarter. This was Brandon’s first game in three years without Will Rogers, the Priority One Bank/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Football Player of the Year last season, starting at quarterback. Rogers is now battling for the starting quarterback position at Mississippi State. Brandon’s seven points is the lowest point production since Rogers’ first game as a sophomore in 2017 when Madison Central won 10-3.
