More than half of Jackson Prep’s starting lineup in baseball this next spring signed with Division I teams Wednesday during the early national signing period.

Five players – Kelly Crumpton, Riley Maddox and Mason Nichols with Ole Miss, Jeffrey Ince with Mississippi State and Thaxton Berch with Louisiana Tech – signed. Crumpton and Maddox are shortstops and right-handed pitchers, Nichols is a first baseman and right-handed pitcher, Ince is a second baseman and right-handed pitcher and Berch is a center fielder.

Crumpton was named to the Rawlings-Perfect Game first team Underclassman All-American team this past spring. Ince was named to the third team. Maddox and Nichols were named to the honorable mention list.

Prep has won three consecutive MAIS state championships and six of the last seven. The MAIS did not have a champion this spring due to COVID-19.

Brent Heavener is the Prep head coach. His assistants are Jay Powell, Marcus Canoy, Zander Romano and J.G. Miley.
