Germantown senior quarterback King White is a strong candidate for the Mr. Football in MHSAA Class 7A this season.

The 6-foot, 210-pound White made his case even stronger Friday night when he completed 21 of 28 passes (75 percent), for a career-high 408 yards and four touchdowns without an interception and had nine carries for 70 yards in a 45-28 victory over Starkville in a Class 7A, Region 2 game at Germantown.

For his outstanding performance, White has been named the Junction Deli/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Football Player of the Week.

White’s performance was the second most passing yards in a game school history. Tyler Shell passed for 422 yards against Presbyterian Christian School in 2012.

White completed TD passes to Lawson Branson (57 yards in the first quarter), Branson (57 yards in the second quarter), Keyshawn Coleman (21 yards in third quarter), and Coleman (60 yards in the third quarter).

White has completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 1,468 yards and 14 TDs without an interception (133 passes) and ran for 297 yards on 62 carries and 8 TDs without a fumble for the 4-2 Mavericks this season.

“King has always been such a talented athlete,” Germantown coach Russell Mitchell said. “He’s tough, hard nosed and a true competitor. It’s been a pure joy to see him develop as a complete quarterback and leader. King has proven a lot of doubters wrong as a quarterback. I couldn’t be more proud of his determination and perseverance.”

White has verbally committed to Hinds Community College and also has an offer from the Naval Academy.

He completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,646 yards and 12 TDs last season as a junior.

White is the son of Trey and Jocelyn White. Trey played football and powerlifting at Madison Central. He was on the 1999 state championship football team and on the 1998 and 1999 state championship powerlifting team. He attended Mississippi State. Jocelyn attended Thornwood High in Chicago.
