Germantown rising senior running back Branson Robinson – the No. 2 running back in the Class of 2022 in the country by ESPN – verbally committed to Georgia Thursday.
The 5-foot-10, 220-pound Robinson made his announcement on CBS Sports HQ. Robinson had announced earlier this summer that his final three choices were Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
Robinson is the No. 20 ranked overall recruit in the country by ESPN. He had 1,205 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior at Germantown. He has been chosen as an Under Armour All-American.
Georgia has had many All-American running backs in its school history, most notably Hershel Walker, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1982 and led the Bulldogs to the national championship in 1980. Other well-known Georgia running backs over the past three decades are Garrison Hearst, Nick Chubb, Knowshun Moreno, Todd Gurley, D’Andre Swift and Sony Michel. The Bulldogs have led the SEC in rushing as a team three times in the past seven years and more times than any other team in the league since 2007.
“Branson is one of the best athletes I’ve ever been around,” Germantown interim head coach Scott Brown said. “He is physical, has great vision and is an intense competitor. All those attributes in one back are hard to find. This is why he is in such demand. He will be a great asset for Georgia.”
