Jackson Academy alumnus Wilson Furr didn’t break par in his professional golf debut, but he is tied with one of the biggest names in the sport and is one shot ahead of a two time major champion.

Furr shot a 6 over par 77 and is in a 14 way tie for 129th place Thursday in his first round as a professional golfer at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, Calif. The biggest name Furr is tied with is former U.S. Open, Masters and British Open champion Jordan Spieth. Furr is one shot ahead of former U.S. Open and British Open champion and former No. 1 player in the world Justin Rose.

There are still 36 players who have yet to complete their first round because play was halted because of darkness at 9:51 Central Time.

Furr is scheduled to tee off at 4:42 p.m. Central in the last group of the day on Friday.

Watch Furr on the Golf Channel until 5, NBC from 5-8, then Golf Channel after 8. Also, follow him at usopen.com or on the PGA Tour mobile app.
