Booneville scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated Magee 4-2 Thursday afternoon to even the best-of-three series at 1-1 for the MHSAA Class 3A state baseball championship at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
Booneville, 25-11, and Magee, 28-5, play the third and deciding game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
Jackson McCoy hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to give Booneville a 2-0 lead. Jordan Magee and Banks Teater hit RBI singles to pull Magee into a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 2-2. Booneville then scored two runs on a throwing error for a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
McCoy, a senior right-hander and Northeast Mississippi Community College signee, improved to 9-0 and pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits with eight strikeouts.
