Clinton Christian Academy won only two games in the past two seasons, but that was before senior quarterback Gared Clark arrived on campus in January.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Murrah High transfer has been amazing in the first two weeks of this season, especially last week when he passed for a school record 433 yards and five touchdowns to lead CCA to a 45-35 victory over Central Holmes Christian School Friday night at CCA in Clinton.
For his outstanding performance, Clark has been named the Junction Deli Metro Jackson Football Player of the Week.
Clark completed 19 of 30 passes and had TD passes for 77 and 36 yards to Rakwun Yates, 71 yards to Jaylen Nichols, 46 yards to Conner Purvis and 24 yards to Rob Perry.
Clark completed 10 of 21 passes for 259 yards and four TDs while playing only the first half in a 43-0 victory over Delta Streets Academy in the season opener.
“I was definitely proud of the game Gared put together,” second-year CCA head coach Zach Rogel said. “Throwing five touchdowns to four different receivers says something about his ability to read the field and spread it around. He was under some pressure at times and took some hits, but always seem to answer with a big play. Gared has his teammates and coaches’ respect for the way he approaches the game on a daily basis. He is never too high or too low, pretty even keel.”
Clark passed for 451 yards and six TDs in nine games for 1-10 Murrah last season as a junior.
Clark and his CCA teammates go for their third straight win Friday when they play at Amite School Center.
