Addison Jayroe played the role as designated hitter for the majority of the season for Madison Central’s baseball team.

And the senior filled that role better than he had all season on the biggest stage of his high school career last week.

Jayroe hit .454 (5 for 11 at bats) with 1 home run, 1 double, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in and was named the Most Valuable Player in the MHSAA Class 7A state championship series as he led Madison Central to the state title over Brandon in the three-game series at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

For his outstanding performance, Jayroe has been named the BSN Sports/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.

Jayroe had 3 hits, scored 1 run, and had 1 RBI in a 11-7 victory in Game 1 Thursday, and had 2 hits, scored 1 run, and had 2 RBIs in a 5-1 victory in Game 3 Saturday.

He hit a two-run home run in the first inning of Game 3 to give Madison Central a 2-0 lead and had a double in the fifth inning, which led to another run for a 5-0 lead.

Jayroe finished the season with a .281 batting average with 8 doubles and 3 home runs and helped Madison Central to a 27-8 record, a No. 2 ranking in Mississippi and No. 44 ranking in the country by MaxPreps and its first state title since 2021 and fifth in school history.

“Addison was seeing the ball really well during our championship series,” Madison Central coach Patrick Robey said. “He had loud barrels all three games. Addison was fairly consistent day in and day out. He certainly had some big hits in key moments, especially Game 1 at Desoto Central and the home run at Trustmark Park.”

Jayroe is the son of Dawn and Chris Jayroe. Dawn played basketball at Madison-Ridgeland Academy and Delta State. Chris played football at MRA. Jayroe’s brother, Christian, played baseball and football at MRA.
