There are several reasons why Pearl River Community College – ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest Division II junior college baseball rankings – signed Madison Central pitcher-shortstop Gavin Parrow and the Clinton Arrows found out why last week.
The senior right-hander threw a two-hitter in a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and also had two hits to lead Madison Central to a 6-0 victory over Clinton in a MHSAA Class 7A, Region 2 game last Tuesday at Madison Central.
For his outstanding performance, Parrow has been named the BSN Sports/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.
Parrow has had an outstanding season for the Jaguars, who were 15-5 overall and 4-2 in region play entering this week. He has a 4-0 record with a 1.27 earned run average and 32 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings and has a .321 batting average with 3 doubles and 17 runs batted in this season going into this week.
“Gavin has been a steady player for us this year,” Madison Central coach Patrick Robey said. “His bat has begun to pick up and he has been pretty consistent on the mound. Our guys know he gives his best effort every day.”
“Gavin is a guy we knew we were going to have to count on coming into the year,” Madison Central associate head coach Hunter Twitty said. “He has been steady for us all year on the mound but has really started to put it together the last few weeks, especially with efficiency and being able to get deeper into games, which we saw against Clinton last week. He has also started to swing it better for us the last few weeks, which has been a big shot in the arm for our offense.”
Parrow is the son of Chris and Dawn Parrow. Chris ran track, played baseball and soccer at Brandon High. He was captain of the Soccer All-Star North Team his senior year. He graduated from Mississippi State. Dawn was a member of the dance/drill team at Northwest Rankin High. She got her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Mississippi College. Parrow’s brother, Landon, played soccer and won a state championship in 2021 for Madison Central. He was first team all-state, Central Mississippi All Star Soccer MVP and USA Today Male Soccer Honoree. Parrow’s grandfather, William Ray “Buddy” Lindsley, Jr., played football at Tulane and Mississippi College. Parrow’s great grandfather, William Ray Lindsley, played basketball and football at Mississippi College and is in the Hall of Fame. Parrow’s great uncle, Danny Lindsley, played football at Mississippi College.
Madison Central – ranked No. 5 in Mississippi by MaxPreps – plays at Germantown Friday at 7 p.m. in a region game. Madison Central defeated Germantown 6-2 Tuesday in the first game of the two-game series.
