Madison Central’s Karley Robinson is healthy this season and is having an outstanding season and had one of her best weeks of the season last week.
The 5-foot-6 sophomore guard – who has bounced back from a knee injury during the season last year – averaged 20.5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in two MHSAA Class 7A, District 2 games last week.
For her outstanding performance, Robinson has been named the Legacy Theater Flowood/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Girls Basketball Player of the Week.
Robinson had a season-high 26 points (one short of her career high), 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist in a 65-59 victory over Clinton and had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists in a 49-44 loss to Starkville, ranked No. 2 in Mississippi by MaxPreps.
She is averaging 14.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.4 steals and had helped Madison Central to a 20-5 record and a No. 6 ranking in Mississippi by MaxPreps going into this week.
Robinson has been a member of the Tatum and Wade/Mississippi Scoreboard Preseason Metro Jackson Elite 11 Team of the past two seasons and made the Mississippi Scoreboard All Metro Jackson team for the past three seasons.
“Karley is the playmaker,” Madison Central coach Jalessa Taylor said. “Whether she’s dishing out assists or putting the team on her back and scoring, she impacts the game in multiple ways. Karley is a true point guard with great court vision and a high basketball IQ. She has fully stepped into her role as a scoring point guard, and she continues to develop in that area every day.”
She is the third Madison Central girls basketball player to get Metro Jackson Player of the Week this season, joining Ayla Benson and Alayah Bolden.
Robinson has Division I offers from Alcorn State, Jackson State, Tennessee-Martin and Alabama A&M.
She averaged 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 3.9 steals before suffering a knee injury in January and led Madison Central to a 14-15 record and made second team Mississippi Scoreboard All-Metro Jackson last season as a freshman.
Robinson averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.0 steals and helped Madison Central to 19-15 record and a MHSAA Class 7A quarterfinals finish and was a second team selection on the All-Metro Jackson team two years ago as an eighth grader.
She averaged 10 points. 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 3.0 assists, and helped Madison Central to a 18-13 record and the MHSAA Class 6A second round three years ago as a seventh grader. She was the only seventh grader in MHSAA Class 6A in Mississippi to start.
Robinson is the daughter of Kalvin and Tori Robinson. Kalvin graduated from Jim Hill and Alcorn State. He was an All-SWAC in football at Alcorn State. Kalvin is a member of the Alcorn Football Hall of Fame and Hall of Honors. He is a retired coach and now assistant superintendent with Madison County Schools. Tori graduated from Port Gibson High and Alcorn State. She played high school basketball for her father, Harold Liggins, and won two state championships in the early 1990s. Tori was a Golden Girl in the Alcorn band. Robinson’s brother, Korey, is a senior at Madison Central and plays football. Her grandfather, Harold Liggins, won several girls basketball state titles at Port Gibson and is a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame. Liggins also was an assistant coach with legendary Ole Miss coach Van Chancellor with the Houston Comets of the WNBA and helped Chancellor win three championships.
