MAIS Class 6A defending state champion Madison-Ridgeland Academy jumped out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 45-7 victory Friday night at Copiah.

MRA won its second straight game and didn’t have any emotional letdown after its last-second, 27-26 victory over Trinity (Texas) Christian last week in the season opener.

Senior Rayf Vinson ran for 83 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns, all in the first quarter. MRA, which scored on its first six possessions, built its lead to 35-0 with a 13-yard TD run by sophomore J.J. Latham and to 42-0 at halftime after a 11-yard TD pass from senior Zach Beasley to sophomore Rivers Godwin. Junior Landon McGee, who kicked all six extra points, added a 29-yard field goal to complete MRA’s scoring in the third quarter.

Copiah, 1-1, scored on sophomore quarterback Ben Adams’ 80-yard TD pass to senior Torriq Cooper.

MRA plays Jackson Academy, 1-1 and a 47-37 loser to Leake Academy Friday night, this week at JA. Copiah plays at Simpson, 1-1.
