Stone Myrick’s mom and dad – Sharea and Casey Myrick – were champions when they played high school and college sports. Sharea won a MAIS Class AAA state title in basketball at Madison-Ridgeland Academy and Casey won a Gulf South Conference championships and made it to the Division II College World Series semifinals in baseball at Delta State.

Stone wants to bring add a championship to the family next week when he and his St. Andrew’s teammates play in the MHSAA Class 2A state baseball championship series.

Myrick did his part last week when he had a .429 batting average (6 for 14), 2 doubles, 5 runs scored, 5 runs batted in and hit a game-winning home run, pitched 7 1/3 innings and a pitching victory and helped St. Andrew’s to four victories – two over Lake and two over Clarkdale – in the 2A state playoffs.

For his outstanding performance, Myrick has been named the PriorityOne Bank/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Baseball Player of the Week.

Myrick started off the week with two hits and three RBIs, including the game winning home run – his first of the season – in the top of the seventh inning in a 11-10 victory over Lake in Game 2 in an elimination game. Myrick also was the winning pitcher and pitched the last 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to clinch the victory.

Myrick had one hit and scored one run in the 7-2 victory over Lake in Game 3. He had one hit (a double), one RBI and scored one run and pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief and allowed only one hit and no runs in a 12-4 victory over Clarkdale in Game 1. Myrick had two hits (a double and a single) and one RBI in a 6-0 victory in Game 2 over Clarkdale.

“Stone seems to be in so many key spots for us last week,” St. Andrew’s coach Mark Fanning said. “He drove in some big runs, scored several runs, played a flawless first base, and also pitched in some huge spots. There are not many bigger moments for a player than to hit a game-winning home run off the scoreboard and then strike out the side in the bottom half to win in an elimination game. He also had big RBI hits in both games of the Clarkdale series to extend the lead. His ability to come into tight situations on the mound and get out of jams played a huge part in two of our wins last week.”

Myrick has a .317 batting average with 36 runs, 34 RBIs, 9 doubles, 2 triples and 1 home run for 30-6 St. Andrew’s this season.

Myrick is the son of Sharea Milner Myrick and Casey Myrick. Sharea played basketball and tennis and graduated from MRA a. She made the MAIS all-star game and won a state title as a senior. Sharea went to Ole Miss and graduated from Mississippi College. Casey played baseball and graduated from Grenada High, played baseball at Delta State and played one year of minor league baseball with the Jackson DiamondKats. Myrick’s brother, Cash, is a freshman at St. Andrew’s and starts on the baseball team. Myrick’s sister, Jett, is a sophomore at Ole Miss and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She played volleyball and graduated from Madison Central High.
