It has yet to be determined where Jackson Prep senior Riley Maddox fits in on the Ole Miss roster next season, but he will definitely be an asset wherever he ends up.
Maddox showed last week he can be outstanding on the mound as well as at the plate.
The right-handed pitcher/third baseman pitched a one hitter with seven strikeouts and hit .500 in Prep’s two-game sweep of Madison-Ridgeland Academy last week for its fourth consecutive MAIS Class 5A state championship.
For his superb performances last week, Maddox has been named the Two Men and a Truck/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Player of the Week.
Maddox allowed one hit – a single by MRA’s Bryce Chance – and two walks in Prep’s 3-0 win over MRA in Game 1. Maddox went 3-for-6 with a double and a home run, one run and one run batted in in the two games against MRA.
Maddox finished the season with a 10-1 record, an 0.82 earned run average, with 97 strikeouts and only 13 walks in 68 2/3 innings for 34-3 Prep. He also had a .352 batting average, 29 runs, 40 RBIs, 8 doubles and 11 home runs.
“I thought Riley really had his stuff working and he helped himself with a big home run,” Prep coach Brent Heavener said. “I just thought Riley showed why he is one of the best players in the state.”
