HATTIESBURG – Lance Mancuso still has the magic touch in state championship games. The coach for Jefferson Davis County guided the Jaguars to a 25-15 victory over Noxubee County Friday for the Class 3A state title at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
It was Mancuso’s eighth state title as a head coach, in eight championship game appearances, and his second in three seasons since JDC merged Bassfield with Prentiss.
Senior Keyser Booth scored two touchdowns, rushing for 184 yards on 17 carries and he also caught a 36-yard touchdown pass as the Jaguars led from start to finish.
Senior Deandre Shorts ran for 93 yards on nine carries and added another touchdown for JDC, plus he had two interceptions to key a stout defense that held the Tigers on three consecutive second-half possessions inside the Jaguar 25-yard-line.
