Jordan Harvey will continue his athletic career next fall in football at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, one of the top junior college football programs in the country.

But for now, the 6-foot-3 senior from Velma Jackson is showing off his athletic ability on the basketball court.

Harvey averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in two Class 3A, Region 6 victories over McLaurin last week.

For his outstanding performances, Harvey has been named the Priority One Bank/Mississippi Scoreboard Metro Jackson Boys Basketball Player of the Week.

Harvey had 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in a 66-29 victory and had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in a 57-28 victory. And he only played two and half quarters in each game.

Harvey is averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals for 7-6 Velma Jackson entering this week.

“Jordan is a very hard worker,” Velma Jackson coach Chris Love said. “He has taken his game to another level this season. Jordan is a fierce competitor, always wanting to guard the other team’s best player.”

Harvey averaged 12.5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots and helped Velma Jackson to a 30-6 record and a Class 3A runner-up finish last season as a junior. He averaged 8.2 points and helped Velma Jackson to the Class 3A state championship two years ago as a sophomore.

Harvey was named to the Priority One Bank/Mississippi Scoreboard All Metro Jackson Football team in 2019 as a junior wide receiver. He caught 63 passes for 1,170 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was moved to quarterback this past season and ran for 521 yards and 10 TDs and passed for 721 yards and five TDs.
